German Court Frees Puigdemont On €75,000 Bail
Apr 05 2018—NEWS—Court sets €75,000 bail, says Puigdemont will not be persecuted politically in Spain.
Spanish news agency EFE reported shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday that a German court in Schleswig-Holstein had freed the former First Minister of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, on bail while it continues to study his extradition to Spain.
A statement published by the German court confirmed it had ruled out extraditing Mr. Puigdemont on a charge of rebellion, which under Spain's Criminal Code carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in jail.
