The Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) announced it would hold an extraordinary meeting of its leadership committee on Thursday morning to formally decide on how it would vote in the motion of no confidence against Mariano Rajoy.

"The PNV will make its decision known after listening to the PSOE's motivations for tabling the motion and discovering the commitments Pedro Sánchez as candidate will acquire", said a tweet.

The PNV's five seats are the final piece of the parliamentary puzzle Pedro Sánchez (PSOE) needs to succeed on Friday, by putting together what has been labelled a Frankenstein coalition against the PP with Podemos and regional nationalists.

El Independiente reported on Wednesday evening that the PNV had already told the Prime Minister's office, Moncloa, that it would support Mr. Sánchez, and that the Spanish government was making plans for Mr. Rajoy to resign and hand over to a caretaker executive headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría.

The report quoted unnamed sources in the PM's office as saying "it's a 95% very ugly" outlook for Mr. Rajoy.

Moncloa denied the story to other parliamentary correspondents minutes after it was published, and said shortly before 7:30 p.m. that the Prime Minister was not scheduled to make any statements before attending parliament for the no confidence debate tomorrow morning.
