The Public Prosecutor's Office at the National High Court in Madrid (Audiencia Nacional) announced on Monday evening that it has launched an investigation into the activities of Catalan separatist protest groups known as Committees for the Defence of the Republic (CDR).

This weekend, the CDRs organised via Telegram and Twitter to open toll booths on some Catalan motorways, so that drivers did not have to pay, or called for a "Catalan Spring" protest to "disobey the state".
