31 cars and 21 large public bins were set alight in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Sabadell (population 207,000) and Blanes (39,000), the Catalan Fire Service confirmed to The Spain Report.

Five incidents were recorded in Sabadell between 3:02 a.m. and 3:58 a.m. and four in Blanes between 1:57 a.m. and 2:32 a.m. The Catalan Fire Service said such an intensity of incidents was not normal, but declined to comment on motive.

The largest single incident of the night, on Castellar del Vallès street in Sabadell, required the intervention of three crews to put out ten burning bins and 13 burning vehicles.

Some adjoining electrical installations were also affected.

A spokeswoman for the Catalan Police (Mossos) told The Spain Report that an investigation had been opened but that nothing could so far be confirmed about the perpetrators or their motive.
