Carles Puigdemont—officially sacked as First Minister of Catalonia in the early hours of Saturday morning—appeared in a pre-recorded video message on Catalan public television, TV3, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
He announced he Catalans must "continue defending" their new republic "with a sense of civic responsibility": "our will is to continue working to guarantee our democratic mandate".
The use of Article 155 to suspend home rule in Catalonia was a "premeditated attack on the majority will of Catalans" and "contrary" to democracy, he said, adding that the key now was "patience, perseverance and perspective".
"Let us continue to persevere […] without violence, without insults."
"We will continue to work to build a free country."
