Spain's leading business association, CEOE, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations, issued a three-point statement on Wednesday concerning the situation in Catalonia.

The association said it supported the rule of law and "all actions" the government might take to enforce the law, but warned "social co-existence and economic prosperity" are at stake.

 CEOE Statement on Catalonia:

  1. As businessmen, we are always with the law and in favour of strict compliance with laws and the Spanish Constitution, as well as with international, and especially European Union, legislation, which are the best guarantees of the legal certainty that is essential for the competitiveness of our companies.

  2. We support all actions it is thought are necessary to carry out with the aim of enforcing current laws.

  3. There is a political problem of great magnitude that must be addressed with the greatest possible urgency and a constructive attitude so that social coexistence and economic prosperity are not affected. Non-resolution would negatively affect all areas.
